3 Examples of Great EVP's: Tech
It’s no secret that in today’s highly competitive talent acquisition landscape, attracting and retaining top talent is a significant challenge for employers.
One of the key recruitment strategies for any company to stand out and be able to attract top talent is through having a strong employer value proposition (EVP).
Your EVP is the unique set of benefits and values your company offers to its employees, setting you apart from other employers in the market. One of the most common challenges companies face is struggling to bring their EVP to life in a way that not only engages candidates but excites them.
Here, we look at 3 top examples of great employer value propositions in the Tech industry and break down why we think they have done a good job to inspire creating your EVP and how you can bring it to life!
1. Atlassian
https://www.atlassian.com/company/careers/resources
Atlassian's employer value proposition is clearly communicated and authentic. Just from a quick glance at Atlassian’s website, the company’s passion and emphasis on everyone being able to be authentically who they are stands out. Atlassian’s EVP is centered around the idea of creating a positive impact on the world through its products, culture, and they put a huge emphasis on their people. The company is renowned for their flexible work environment, alongside their unlimited annual leave, and opportunities for growth and development.

Detail!
Atlassian has invested time in creating a candidate resource hub which can give someone looking at a career with Atlassian a true insight into who they are and what they are about. This isn’t just a careers page – this is a whole site dedicated to potential candidates – their potential employees. As well as your expected benefits and perks, they have real life stories from current employees so you can really understand who Atlassian are.

Individual focussed
Atlassian don’t just state their values, they show how they put them in to practice through their ‘values in action’ page - https://www.atlassian.com/company/careers/resources/culture/values-in-action.
This is a page centred around their people, with their values in practice being different depending on the location, truly reflecting the care placed on the uniqueness of their staff and what suits them best. ‘In Amsterdam, this could mean providing on-site bicycle repair while also hosting an annual King’s Day celebration, whereas, in Bengaluru, it could mean celebrating Innovation Week.’
The same goes for their perks, benefits and work life balance, being very focused around what works best for that person individually e.g., their flexible work arrangement where they don’t expect a typical 9am-5pm.
Demonstrated Career Growth
Another thing Atlassian does very well in their EVP, is to demonstrate what life would be like for the prospective candidate and to really bring them in to the Atlassian world.
(Screenshot from Atlassian Website)
For example, they have ‘A day with Atlassian's Associate Product Managers’, as well as advice from Engineering Managers on how to ‘break the glass ceiling of tech’ and an interview with an employee who grew from a grad to an Engineering Manager.
This really shows someone how they could grow both professionally and personally at Atlassian and is very relatable content, making it a very transparent process when researching the company and roles.

Why it Works
Atlassian make it very easy for someone to get an insight in to what it could be like to work there and what their values are. They have put a lot of work in to communicating a strong EVP with real life examples of career growth & development so that people can see how they could grow with Atlassian. The proof is in the pudding; Atlassian has been named in the top ten companies to work for including in the Fortune 500 top ten and LinkedIn top 25 in 2023.
2. Canva

Canva is another great example of a brilliantly done employer value proposition.
Dedicated Candidate Site
To start with, Canva have their own candidate site – lifeatcanva.com, which gives candidates access to everything they could possibly want to know about what it could look like to work at Canva.

Within this site, they have content about what life is like at Canva as well as being able to delve into who their team would be and how their role could develop in that dedicated team.

Individual ‘Canvanauts’
Again, like Atlassian, Canva put a huge emphasis on its people and how they can help their people to succeed.
Something that is perhaps the most noticeable about Canva’s EVP is the emphasis on inclusion and community. They have a clear message, they want every ‘Canvanaut’ to have a ‘seat at the table’ and to thrive through empowering their employees to feel like they belong. They do this through recognising different communities and people’s individual cultural differences, making this clear through their EVP marketing, by communicating real life stories, images & videos of their current employees.

Their ‘Vibe & Thrive’ benefit is a brilliant example of how they empower their staff to be their best, with an allowance for employees to spend on ‘whatever will support your wellbeing and development - because you know what you need to Vibe and Thrive better than anyone.’

Growth & Development
Canva puts growth & development high on the list, with every role at Canva supported by a specific growth and development framework which they bring out to the forefront on their lifeatcanva site as well as posts about real life career development stories. This means someone can envision what their career could look like at Canva, and the impact they could have.

Why It Works
It's clear to see from Canva’s EVP that they really care about their people both at work and outside of work, celebrating individual differences and focussing on the impact their employees can make in their role so that they can do ‘their best work’ in what ever way suits them.
3. Hubspot
https://www.hubspot.com/careers
Hubspot is a leading CRM and marketing platform and as well as having a strong corporate brand, they also have a strong employer brand, backed up with a strong EVP.
Understanding the ‘new world’ of work
(Screenshot from Hubspot Website)
Their careers page nails what an EVP in 2023 is all about, visually summarised in a slide deck, where they address the fact that the working world has changed. Coming up with a strong EVP for the modern world is understanding the changes that we have seen in the last 12, 24, and 36 months.
Hubspot also understands that an EVP needs to be authentic. It isn’t about being the best of the best but about being transparent so that candidates know what they are signing up for, the good the bad and the ugly along with the ping pong tables and free lunches.

Authenticity
Similarly to Atlassian and Canva's real life examples, Hubspot's careers site includes videos of current employees talking about their experience at Hubspot, giving an authentic employee generated approach; rather than just telling you what your career could look like at Hubspot, you can hear it from the people who know best!
(Screenshot from Hubspot Website)
Alongside their careers site, Hubspot also has an Instagram page dedicated to careers at Hubspot titled ‘Hubspotlife ’ where they showcase pictures of the office, their employee social events and interviews with current employees about their life at Hubspot. This gives candidates an authentic insight into the culture at Hubspot.
Growth & Development
It’s clear to see from Hubspot’s careers page that growth is very important, with the focus on growth from a company evolution point of view and personal growth, e.g., their 'free books program'. With growth and development being at the top of many candidates lists when looking for a new role, this is hugely important and shows that someone can professionally and personally grow whilst working at Hubspot. Included in their benefits are also, ‘leadership development’ and ‘tuition reimbursement’.

What Hubspot do well is also being aware of wanting their culture to evolve and grow to be better.

Team specific EVP’s
Similarly to Canva, Hubspot have pages dedicated to each team, so that people can see what their career could look like at Hubspot in their specific team. Within the team pages on Hubspot’s careers site, they have real life stories, posts, and interviews with current employees in each team about their career at Hubspot, creating mini EVP’s for each team, giving candidates the information they need to know whether this role is right for them and allowing candidates to picture themselves in the role, making this relatable and easy to apply to.
Why It Works
Hubspot’s EVP is very transparent, their message is simple: they understand the working world has changed and they want to move and grow with it, so that you can be your best and succeed.
Your EVP
If you take anything away from looking at these three organisations it should be that having an understanding of the ‘modern’ working world and placing an emphasis on your employees' uniqueness and how as a company you can support them both professionally and personally to succeed can have a massive impact on building a positive and successful culture & company. Another key takeaway in bringing your EVP to life is to give candidates an authentic insight in to your company and how they perceive your brand with real life examples from your current employees.
Establishing and bringing your EVP to life is vital in attracting not only top talent but the right talent to your organisation and should be at the top of the list in your recruitment campaigns!
