AI is getting all the love right now and rightly so, it’s an exciting time in the tech space with real world uses for AI finally making their way into the hands of the public and starting to actually make us more productive! Having said that, we figured we would park the AI chat and look at some of other exciting and useful tech making its way into the recruitment world that you should know about!

1. Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) in Recruitment

Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) technology is already being used in industries such as gaming, education, and healthcare in some pretty interesting ways. For example, aged care company Blue Cross using VR to enable the elderly to experience what may have been outside their reach such as travel, adventure, aquatics, even classical concerts and theatrical performances, from the comfort of their home!

Recruitment won’t be an exception to this. VR/AR technology will soon enable employers to create immersive experiences that will allow candidates to interact with the company's products and services, meet current employees, and even take virtual tours of the workplace! This is one step further than video to really communicate your employer brand and can give candidates a better understanding of a company culture and help them make an informed decision about whether they want to work for you!

2. Big Data Analytics in Recruitment

We talked about Big Data Analytics in our article last week on how to implement data driven recruitment. Data and analytics are already being used by companies to analyse customer behaviour, predict market trends, and identify potential risks. In 2023, it will become more common in the recruitment process. Big Data Analytics will enable employers to analyse data from job boards, social media, and other sources to identify potential candidates. It can also be used to predict which candidates are more likely to accept a job offer, which will help employers focus their recruitment efforts on those candidates. Using data will help to take some of the guess work out of recruitment!

3. Mobile Recruitment

Mobile devices have become an integral part of daily our lives, and they will continue to play a significant role in recruitment in 2023. Glassdoor found that 58 percent of their users look for jobs on their phones. However, not all applications are mobile friendly, with mobile users completing 53 percent fewer applications and taking 80 percent longer to complete an application than job seekers on a desktop [Glassdoor].

A change in this will bring about even more mobile friendly recruitment, which will enable candidates to apply for jobs using their smartphones or tablets, with employers being able to also use mobile devices to post job adverts, screen resumes, and schedule interviews.

Taking a mobile first approach to your job ads and application process will not only bring you into the 21s century but will reduce that friction for candidates which will help you get more, quality applications for your roles.

4. Social Media in Recruitment

Social Media is now used by 4.70 billion people in the world -that’s 59% of the population - and is a tool that people use not only for their personal life but is an instrumental marketing & advertising tool for organisations to market their employer brand.

With 96% of candidates researching a potential employer’s reputation before switching jobs - [LinkedIn] we will see an even bigger boom in using social media for recruitment as organisations focus on marketing their employer value proposition building their employer brand and cutting down job board costs.

It’s no secret that technology will continue to have a significant impact on the world and the recruitment industry in 2023. VR/AR, Big Data Analytics, social media and mobile recruitment will all play a role in the technology boom that the recruitment industry is experiencing. These technologies can save you time, make the recruitment process more efficient, create reach to a wider pool of candidates, and help you make better hiring decisions to ultimately fuel your business growth.

Businesses that embrace these technologies and use them effectively will have a competitive advantage in attracting and hiring top talent in 2023.
